In today's English conversation lesson, we will study some dialogues that are related to tour in the tropical island of Mansinam. It is a small island in the Dorey bay of Manokwari regency. Mansinam has been a favorite tourist destination both for domestic and international travelers. On 5 February 1855 European evangelists C.W Ottow (and his wife) and Geissler landed on the island to preach Gospel to the indigenous Papuan people.

Dialogue 1. At Ketapang Boat Station There were some outrigger boats on the wooden pier waiting for passengers. Mr. Jens had just arrived from Aston Niu hotel. That morning he wanted to go hiking around the village of Mansinam island. Peter, the boat driver, offered his service to him. Peter: Good morning, Sir. Do you want to go to Mansinam island? Mr. Jens: Yes. I want to go hiking around the village of the tropical island. How much is the rent cost I use for your boat for a whole day? Peter: I charge 500,000 rupiahs. I can bring you around the island and after that if you still want to see another island, I can bring you to the nearby Lemon island. Mr. Jens: Should I pay now? Peter: No, Sir. You can pay me later after we finish the tour. Mr. Jens: OK. So, we can go now.
Dialogue 2. Going to the Mansinam island Peter: Sir, we have just arrived. Mr. Jens: Yes, I know. Wow, the beach is so beautiful. It is still covered with a lot of coconut trees and other tropical plants. Peter: Mr. Jens, please, be careful when you get off the boat. Because of the waves, the hull of the boat cannot stand still. Mr. Jens: Don't worry, it's not difficult for me to go down to the beach.
Dialogue 3. Hiking around the Mansinam island Fifteen minutes later, they were walking under the coconut trees near the village. Mr. Jens: What do the villagers do for a living? Peter: Some people work as government employee but most of them work as farmers and fishermen. I also have some friends from this island who work as boat driver. Is the income from running the water taxi enough for you? Mr. Jens: I really like this island. It's peaceful here. We don't here the sounds of cars or motorcycles. All that we hear now are the sounds of waves and the singing of birds in the tropical rainforest. Peter: Sir, do you plan to come back again next year. Mr. Jens: I plan to visit Manokwari city and some areas in West Papua again but not next year. I think I will come two years from now. Peter: That's good, Mr. Jens. Then I will be able to bring you around with my water taxi. |
