George   Hi, Eliane. I haven't seen you for one month. Where have you been?
Eliane   Hi George, I went on a vacation to New Guinea. It is a tropical island in Indonesia.
George   I know where the New Guinea island is. Which part of the island did you visit?
Eliane   I went to Manokwari - the capital of West Papua province.
George   Was it a nice place for traveling?
Eliane   I went snorkeling in the bay and hiking for a week in Arfak mountain range. Snorkeling was an easy thing to do but hiking down the slope of Arfak mountains was really hard. It was very cold there.
George   You did? Tell me a little bit about your snorkeling vacation in the bay.
Eliane   Well, it was a nice trip. I went there in the afternoon at 3 p.m. I and a tourist guide named Charles went there by ojek. It was a motorcycle taxi. It took around 30 minutes to reach a beach a little bit outside of the town. A fisherman with his daughter were waiting for us. Then we went by a motorized outrigger boat to a coral reef. The weather was bright but not hot. I and Charles were snorkeling for around three hours. Over the coral reef I saw various species of tropical fish such as the damselfish and the anemone fish. I also saw butterfly fish. These ornamental fish are really beautiful.
George   It sounds that snorkeling in Manokwari bay was great.
Eliane   It was.
George   Do you plan to visit Manokwari again?
Eliane   Well, traveling to the tropical region is nice. But I need to save more money before I am able to travel again.
George   After listening to your story, I think, I will start doing some research about New Guinea and the travel possibilities there.

Vocabularies:

Snorkeling: Swimming on the surface of a body of water with mask and snorkel. Mask helps the swimmer look things underwater clearly and the snorkel helps the swimmer breath. As a breathing apparatus, a snorkel is a pipe that connects the mouth of a swimmer with the air.

Coral reef: See the above photograph. Coral reef can be found mostly in tropical region. It is located between 1 to 30 meters below sea level. Coral reef is also called the tropical rainforest of the ocean because it functions like a rainforest. Coral reef is home to various species of fish, and other marine animals. Today, marine pollution and destructive fishing cause massive damages in coral reef areas around the world. Eco-tourism is one of the solutions that can be done to improve the economic condition of fisherman and at the same time preserve the marine environment from extinction. Today, coral reef is seen as an attractive place for tourists. Travel agencies around the world offer vacation packages to tourists under such term as snorkeling tour and scuba diving trip to tropical islands in the Pacific. So, coral reef is a vocal point of marine tourism industry.
