Electric Car the Future of Urban Transportation
Share
Car has been
part of our daily life in transporting goods and people from one place
to another. Car plays important role in supporting the economic
livelihood of billions of people around the world. In other words, modern society see car
as an inseparable part of their life. In recent years, there is a
growing concern about the rising temperature of our atmosphere which is
also known as global warming. The CO2 gases which we emit every day from
the burning of fuel oil or fossil fuel that our cars use are the main causal factor for
the global warming. Besides planting more trees, stopping illegal
logging, recycling our wastes; inventing more efficient car that
consumes less or no fossil fuel is considered very important in
restoring our environmental condition. Many people ride bicycles to
work. Some walk and others choose to go by public transportation.
People begin to realize that the creation of clean environment in
cities is possible due to the availability of green car. This kind of
car is a new type of motorized vehicle that consumes less amount of
gasoline or that does not use fossil fuel to make it move on the street.
In recent years, major car manufacturers have developed cars that store
electric energy in batteries. These cars do not use internal combustion
engine but electric motor. The electric cars are hoped to replace
conventional cars that we use today because they do not emit CO2 gases.
In addition, they do not create too much noise when moving on the
streets.
Electric car
is more suitable for use as passenger transportation because its vibration is very small compared to sedan or bus that is
powered by diesel or gasoline engines.
Although electric motor is said to have many advantages over the
conventional gasoline or diesel engine, it also has some disadvantages.
For example, the capacity of the batteries for storing the energy is
still not adequate for long trip. The recharging of the car batteries still needs
much longer time than the refueling of gasoline engine. Car batteries
also contain dangerous chemical substances that need special treatments
before they be safely disposed off to the environment or be recycled for
later use.
Engineers still need to improve the technology of electric cars before
they will be able to fully replace most of the conventional cars that we
currently use at the moment. by
