Watercolor Painting of Sisters Fishing at a Wooden Jetty Marine pollution has been the concern of many people. In coastal towns and cities, the beach has been a final dumping site for garbage or domestic and industrial wastes that are harmful not only for the fish and coral reef but also for human being who eat them. My today's painting story is about two sisters, accompanied by a Teddy bear doll, fishing at a wooden jetty. I sketched it first on A3 size drawing paper and then colored it with Derwent Watercolour Pencils and Marie's Watercolor.
These girls thought that they had caught a big fish in the water. Both of them had to joined hands to lift and roll the fishing rod to take the "fish" out of the sea water. What did they get? Unfortunately, it was a worn out shoe. Well, this watercolor painting is a composition artwork. The original picture was not like that. There were not any boats or ship in the bay nor even the shoe hanging on the fish-hook. I had to create the additional scene out of my own imagination. So, if we think that the plastic tote bags which you ignorantly throw to the streets instead of the garbage bean will not do any harm to ourself, our children might become the victims of such stupid act. Instead of catching fish, they might catch the plastic wastes. Let's preserve our natural environment by reducing the use of plastic bags and throw them into the garbage beans. The title of the watercolor painting: Sisters Fishing at a Wooden Jetty (Lukisan Cat Air Dua Orang Bersaudara Perempuan Memancing di Dermaga Kayu) Size: 44 cm x 30.5 cm Year: 2004 Artist: Charles Roring Media: Watercolor on cold pressed acid free Canson Paper

Art and Culture Stories Art and culture have been an integral part of human life. The following articles are English reading comprehension material which you can use to enrich your vocabularies particularly those related to painting, dancing, and music. Because I like painting with watercolors very much, many of the articles will be about watercolor. The artworks that I have created in recent years are based on my observations on nature (landscape, seascape, forest) and human activities when I travel around guiding tourists. I consider painting as a hobby. It has not been a profession because of my other works in writing travel stories and guiding tourists. However, I might decide to devote my whole time in the future to this beautiful art media.
