Watercolor Painting of Two Birds Singing by a Lake

In the middle of 2004, I felt that I needed to deepen my drawing and painting skill. Although it was only a hobby, I should practiced drawing more frequently. So, I bought some drawing paper and a box of Faber-Castell watercolor pencils from Gramedia bookstore in Surabaya. The first drawing that I made was two birds. I did not create them out of my genuine imagination. Instead, I drew these birds from a magazine. It was an old National Geographic. To create more livelier atmosphere for the birds, I added the sandy beach, coconut forest at back of the stone which stood by the birds, and blue waters as well as the mountain range and the blue sky. When I saw that the sketch was ready I colored it with watercolor pencils. Using watercolor pencils as media was easy.
If you are interested in painting with watercolor, I suggest that you try Watercolor pencils. They are easy to be controlled and are available in most of art supplies shop in affordable prices.

Art and Culture Stories

Art and culture have been an integral part of human life. The following articles are English reading comprehension material which you can use to enrich your vocabularies particularly those related to painting, dancing, and music. Because I like painting with watercolors very much, many of the articles will be about watercolor. The artworks that I have created in recent years are based on my observations on nature (landscape, seascape, forest) and human activities when I travel around guiding tourists. I consider painting as a hobby. It has not been a profession because of my other works in writing travel stories and guiding tourists. However, I might decide to devote my whole time in the future to this beautiful art media.
