Watercolor Painting of Three Little Girls Walking by the Beach

When I was learning the techniques of painting with watercolor, I began with small size paper. It was in 2004 I guess when I was still a beginning artist trying to master how to properly sketch human figure with good or well-balanced proportions. Besides drawing human figures, I like to draw seascape. Why? Because I frequently visit the beach.

I go to the beach not only to swim or to snorkel around the coral reef. I feel and I see the marine environment as my art inspiration. The greenish blue waves that land on the white sandy beach are perfect combination for three little girls that were walking along the beach.

Well, when I was coloring them with watercolor pencils. I saw that the white sandy beach could not be distinguished with the white foam of the waves that were crawling along the beach. So, I decided to change the color of the sand into cream. I was not sure whether it was a perfect choice or not but I thought that there should be two different colors for the "white sandy beach" and the "foam of the sea waves."

When I am writing this web-page, I have to admit that I haven't been painting for two or three months now. Last night I watched how painting artists in China make money through doing commission works ordered by art gallery owners. They often had to compromise their creativity with the demand of their boss. For me, I am really concerned about it. An artist should do his job based on creativity. Well, he can do commission painting but the artworks that he creates should be in accordance with his artistic view of the figure that he is drawing or painting.

On my sketchbook now, there is a painting that is now being colored with Derwent and Pentel Watercolors, the former was made in England and the latter was made in Taiwan. Both have different pigment quality. I plan to finish the painting this or next week. What will be the title of it? Well, because it has not finished yet, I should wait to name it now.

Back to my discussion about the above watercolour painting, I should admit that the artwork still shows how amateur I was or I am. I honestly have to work hard in order to improve my drawing and coloring skill. I think, because I just sold three of my watercolor paintings, I will finish all the unfinished artworks this or next month. The theme about my watercolor paintings in the future will most likely be related to seascape and wildlife.
