Software for Learning English or Bahasa Inggris

English learning software is not the same as human

Today learners of English language can study this international language using a wide range of English learning software. The software needs to be installed inside a computer before somebody can use it to study English or bahasa Inggris. Software alone cannot make people write and speak English fluently. When we use a language learning software, we study a pre-programmed language course. The communication between learners and the computer looks interactive but actually it is not. We cannot easily ask the computer for direct spoken explanation for grammatical problems that we face while studying certain lessons from the computer. A PC or laptop is not as flexible as human.  Therefore, I have to say that learning English from software alone is not enough. It can improve our communicative skills but it is not an all in one solution for people who to master the language.

Machine or Human Language

Learning English through a number of websites on the internet is also similar to learning English or Bahasa Inggris from a computer software. Except if there is a language instructor who is sitting in front of the computer can provide direct interactivity to course participants in his website, the website cannot provide a number of answers for our questions that need detailed explanations. For instance, we know that search Engine giant Google has provided a translate tool on the internet for anybody who wants to translate an article from a foreign language to his native language (particularly the ones that are available or provided by Google). I used to try translating a paragraph of an article from English to Indonesia. I find that the translation result was good but not perfect enough to be considered as an excellent translation tool. There are still some sentences or words whose meaning are not accurate.

The position of English teachers cannot be replaced

So, even there are a lot of English language learning available in bookstores, and on the internet, they cannot completely replace the positions of English teachers. We still need experienced English language teachers or instructors if we want to master English or Bahasa Inggris in faster and safe way. Why I said safe? Because when certain difficult topics such as comparison of tenses in English grammar or the use of preposition in idiomatic English phrases are explained by qualified English teachers, we will feel confident that the lessons that we study from that are really what human speak about or use instead of being only a machine language.

Don't forget to also learn English from human

I write this article without any intention to discourage you from buying an English learning software. I just want to say that the jobs of English teachers cannot be replaced machines or computer software. When we study English or any language using computer software, we must enrich our selves with direct communicative experience with native speakers of the language that we try to master. If we do not do it, we may not be able to speak English or bahasa Inggris but the language that we say is a rigid one. by Charles Roring
