Grammar in Context
Grammar in Context presents the grammar focus of the unit in a
natural context. The texts, all of which are recorded, present
language in various formats. These include newspaper and
magazine excerpts, Web sites, and newsletters, advertisements,
brochures, and other formats that students encounter in their
day-to-day lives. In addition to presenting grammar in context,
this introductory section raises student motivation and provides
an opportunity for incidental learning and lively classroom
discussions. Topis are varied, ranging from people's names,
friendship, and saving money to skydiving, body art, and feng
shui. Each text is preceded by a pre-reading activity called
Before You Read. Pre-reading questions create interest,
elicit students' knowledge about the topic, help point out
features of the text, and lead students to make predictions
about the reading.
English Dialogue
Dialogue is an important part in
learning English language. Whether it is conducted with a native speaker or
friends, dialogues will help learners of English improve their proficiency. By regularly practicing samples of conversation that
are related to our daily activities, we will be able to communicate with our
friends, or colleagues without any difficulties. Englishland has provided a lot
of free lessons to learners who want to study English from basic
up to intermediate and more advanced levels.
Is English Difficult?
Besides
learning grammar and memorizing vocabularies, we need to practice
conversing in English. It is ideal to converse with native speakers but
if we cannot find native speakers, we can simulate an English
conversation environment in our own English club by practicing
samples
of conversation given in this website or other English learning software
and recordings. I believe
that if you continue to improve your English, one day you will have more
confident in using the language not only at work but also in every
aspect of your daily life.
Learning English
Through Youtube
Learning English is much easier now
than ten years ago. We live in the internet era where information flows freely
from all corners of the world. For English learners, learning materials are now
available for free and can be downloaded from various online English schools
websites and video portals. There are a lot of English learning websites in this
cyber world but one that I will recommend is Youtube. This is a video portal
where millions of internet users visit every day. It contains videos from
information about traveling to learning English. You don't have to pay anything
for watching English learning materials which have been uploaded by thousands of
English teachers from around the world. What you need is a computer with a web
browser that can display the Youtube videos. Some materials can be watched if
you are a member of Youtube. Also if you want to upload your own English videos
to the internet, you need to sign up to become a member.
Let's
Write English
The
introduction of grammatical structures as lesson material in
Let's Write English is rigidly controlled. The books begin
with a review of sentence patterns which students practice by
writing them according to formula and then by expanding and
combining them in closely controlled, carefully demonstrated
ways. In most lessons, sentence practice leads to a suggested
paragraph assignment. Carefully spaced throughout the book are
Writing Practice lessons which build upon what students have
learned in preceding lessons. There
are a lot of writing exercises in the book that have been
provided by the author to help students compose sentences from
the simplest one line sentence to a complete story consisting of
several paragraphs. This book is suitable for anybody who wants
to study various styles of writing (narration, description,
argumentation and exposition) in English language.
Learning English While Traveling
Have
you ever thought that you can learn English
while traveling? You might say, "Well,
people will study English if they want to go
abroad especially to English speaking
countries such as the United Kingdom and the
United States of America." But here I want
to say that you can learn English even if
you only visit a nearby city. I personally
like traveling and I do it every month while
guiding foreign tourists who come to visit
Manokwari for hiking in the rainforest or
snorkeling over the coral reef.
Suppose that you live in Jakarta - the
capital city of the Republic of Indonesia,
and you want to go to Surabaya - a trading
city in East Java Province. You will wonder
how you can study English while traveling to
that city. This is what you can do. Try to
find a travel guide about the city of
Surabaya both from a bookstore or a website
on the internet. At the moment the travel
guide for Surabaya city is available in
several languages. It will be good for you
if you can get an English version. If you
cannot find it at your local bookstores then
I will suggest that you log on to the
website of Lonely Planet. If you don't know
the address of the website, just type Lonely
Planet in Google search engine. It will give
you the address of the website. When you
click the hyperlink of Lonely Planet, you
will be presented with a front page that
contains travel guides to many parts of the
world. You don't have to be confused with
them. Just type Surabaya travel guide. The
website will give you what you request.
