This English grammar book is one of my favorite references. I saw this book for the first time when I was walking between bookshelves of Dian Pertiwi bookstore in Ambon city looking for a self-study English grammar book. When I picked the book up from the shelf, I knew that it was the one that I was looking for. This book helps me a lot in explaining anything related to tenses and the use of verbs and prepositions. I also have one with red cover entitled English Grammar for Elementary Level. Both of them were written by the same author. The English Grammar in Use has explanations on left-hand pages and exercises on right-hand pages. This dark green book is a very good reference for those who have been in intermediate or advanced levels. I personally used this book when I was still a university student. This grammar book helped me a lot in understanding the structure of sentences in relation to various tenses of English language. Before reading the grammar explanation and doing the exercises in this book, I had always been confused with the many confusing structures and tenses of English language. Now, I can understand them easily. Anyone who is serious in learning English should read this book especially after he or she has learned for one year.
However, if you are still in an elementary level, I suggest that you buy grammar book that is more suitable to your ability such as Focus on Grammar - an introductory course for reference and practice by Irene E. Schoenberg.
