Souvenir Shops in Manokwari of Papua

Toko Suvenir di Manokwari Papua

There are several souvenir shops in Manokwari town. Some are purely run by shop owners who order their merchandise from other towns both inside and outside Papua whereas others are run by artists as home based businesses. My recommendation for you is that by buying directly from the artists, you interact with them and understand more about the culture of Papuan people. In addition, the artists will be encouraged to be more creative in producing higher quality handicrafts to satisfy their buyers, i.e. the foreign tourists who visit their houses or galleries.

Art lovers who come to Manokwari are advised to meet him if they want to know more about Papuan art and culture. Some of my articles that are related to him are:

When you visit the above artists or other handicraft shops in town, please avoid buying souvenirs that are made of coral reefs such as necklaces and bracelets, or skins, fur, or feather of endangered animals such as birds of paradise, kuskus, and soa-soa. Buying such handicrafts will encourage the hunting of threatened animals. The recommended art products that you can buy are wood carvings, woven cloth, batiks, dried flowers, paintings, postcards, and other artworks that are made by the artists from their creativity using raw materials that are abundant in nature. by Charles Roring

The following articles are my recommendation, stories and experience when guiding foreign tourists who come to Manokwari of West Papua to enjoy the beauty of its natural scenery and the hospitality of the indigenous people. This website is aimed at promoting eco-tourism in the region to create jobs among the indigenous people and awareness among us about the importance of protecting and preserving tropical rainforest that is now facing extinction due to rapid deforestation.
