Bat Watching in Manokwari of West Papua
Pengamatan Kelelawar atau Bat Watching di Manokwari Papua
Bat
watching is not a common hobby that many people do. Very few
people like bat watching. Bats are flying animal that look like
birds but are different from birds. Bats go out to find food at
night whereas birds, except owl, go out during the days. Bats live in caves
or high trees. To observe bats, first, you need to know where
you can find them. In Manokwari city of West Papua, there are a
number of natural caves where bats like to sleep during the
days. You don't need binoculars to see them as the height of the
cave interior is less than thirty meters. These caves are
located in the Table Mountain that is in the north of Manokwari
city. Manokwari is the capital of Papua Barat Province. Before
going to the Table Mountain to watch bats flying and hanging in
the natural caves, make sure that you wear proper clothing. Wear
trousers, T-Shirt and boots or sport shoes. Don't wear sandals.
In addition, you need to bring head lamp or torch to help you
explore the interior of the caves that are dark inside. If you
want to take photographs of the bats, bring a digital photo or
video camera with you.
There is a three day tour package around Manokwari which I and
my friend provide to tourists.
Day 1: Hiking, Bird Watching, Caving, Bat Watching in the Table Mountain
Day 2: Visiting islands in the Dorey bay (hiking, bird watching,
swimming, snorkeling)
Day 3: Visiting the northern coast of Manokwari and enjoy
canoeing to Kaki island.
As a tourist guide, I can help you to visit these natural caves.

The following articles are my recommendation, stories and experience when guiding foreign tourists who come to Manokwari of West Papua to enjoy the beauty of its natural scenery and the hospitality of the indigenous people. This website is aimed at promoting eco-tourism in the region to create jobs among the indigenous people and awareness among us about the importance of protecting and preserving tropical rainforest that is now facing extinction due to rapid deforestation.
