Manokwari regency has a lot of interesting places. One of them is Anggi. There are two big lakes in Anggi. They are called Lake Man and Lake Woman. Last week I guided four tourists from Switzerland on a trekking trip around Anggi lakes and then to slopes of Arfak mountains in Kwau village of Manokwari regency. The terrains of the Arfak mountains were quite demanding. They were steep, and slippery particularly during the rainy days. At first, I thought that the beautiful Swiss girls would not be able to complete their trekking journey in this mountain range that is covered with pristine tropical rainforest. I was wrong. The Swiss tourists were really tough. I can say that they are the toughest trekkers I've guided so far. They never complained about the terrains. Perhaps that's because they are used to hiking or trekking in Swiss whose terrains consist of steep mountains too. When we were in Anggi, the weather was very hot. All of us suffered from some sun burns on our faces and hands. We thought that the temperature of areas near Anggi lakes was very cold but we were totally wrong. It's true that usually the temperatures in Anggi areas are very cold. However when we were hiking along the road around the Anggi Lake, the sun was shining upon us. It was really hot but all of us enjoyed our trip there.

After walking for around two hours along the road of Anggi lake, we went by car to Kwau village in Mokwam area. We trekked the steep slopes there for four days. They Swiss tourists enjoyed bird watching and some village tours while staying in the guest house of the village. They saw the magnificent birds of paradise (cincinnurus magnificus), spotted catbird, cinnamon dove and various other birds that usually can be found living in the rainforest of Arfak mountains of Manokwari. As a tourist guide, I have been guiding tourists to Kwau village since last year. Most of the tourists come from Europe. I hope that more tourists will visit Arfak mountains so that I and the villagers there can provide jobs to the local people and at the same time preserve the precious rainforest of New Guinea - the largest tropical island in the world.
In addition to trekking and bird watching in Arfak mountains, I also provide snorkeling package to travelers who want to the beauty of the underwater world of the coral reef in Manokwari bay. Coral reef plays similar functions to tropical rainforest. It is home to thousands of species of marine animals and it absorbs CO2 that we emit everyday through our activities in cooking, driving cars or heating our homes. by Charles Roring

Travel Guide Manokwari
The following articles are my recommendation, stories and experience when guiding foreign tourists who come to Manokwari of West Papua to enjoy the beauty of its natural scenery and the hospitality of the indigenous people. This website is aimed at promoting eco-tourism in the region to create jobs among the indigenous people and awareness among us about the importance of protecting and preserving tropical rainforest that is now facing extinction due to rapid deforestation.
