Riding mountain bike in Arfak mountains is a fascinating activity for tourists.
Cyclists who want to experience the natural beautity and fresh air of the
mountains need a 4 wheel drive car usually a Toyota Hilux to go there. From
Manokwari city, the time needed to reach Minyambouw is around 2.5 to 3 hours.
The slopes are steep. After reaching District Minyambouw or Mokwam, mountain
bikers can start riding their bicycles down the slopes of Arfak mountains back
to Manokwari. I have been promoting Arfak mountains as tourist destination for
those who want to watch birds or see the lifestyle of the indigenous Papuan
people from closer distance. Foreign travelers usually go there to watch birds
of paradise, bower bird and tree kangaroos that live under the canopy of the
tropical rainforest of the mountains. Because mountain biking is possible to be
done in the region, I am now offering such trip to tourists who want to visit
Manokwari.
Eco-tourism program that I develop for Arfak mountains is meant to create jobs to the indigenous people and at the same time preserve the precious tropical rainforest of the region. We all know that tropical rainforest plays a significant role in absorbing CO2 emissions that we emit every day during our daily activities such as riding cars, or cooking food at our homes. Yet the size of the rainforest is decreasing rapidly due to illegal logging and massive conversion to monoculture palm oil plantation. With this eco-tourism program, we expect to improve the standard of living of the indigenous Papuan people so that they will not be tempted to give up their lands and forest for irresponsible exploitation. I will be happy to arrange your trip to this magnificent mountain range of New Guinea island. Happy Cycling.

The following articles are my recommendation, stories and experience when guiding foreign tourists who come to Manokwari of West Papua to enjoy the beauty of its natural scenery and the hospitality of the indigenous people. This website is aimed at promoting eco-tourism in the region to create jobs among the indigenous people and awareness among us about the importance of protecting and preserving tropical rainforest that is now facing extinction due to rapid deforestation.
