OASIS Korean Drama of Triangular Love

Brief story of Episode 1 - Celebrating 10^th anniversary of Korean satellite TV station - Arirang TV began broadcasting a new drama series called OASIS. The drama is starred by a beautiful actress Jang Sin Young starring Jeong In-Hui and Song Il Guk playing as Yu Gi Hyeon. This love story drama happened during the occupation of Korea by the Japanese.

When Yu Gi Hyeon was a child his father taught him how to play saxophone. One day, they walked a long a field. They stop for a while to take a break. His father was playing the saxophone and Yu Gi Hyeon was watching him.

Suddenly there was a man riding a bicycle fast toward them. He was being chased by a car. He fell to the ground and tried to escape but then he was shot by another man who hurriedly came out of the car. Yu Gi Hyeon and his father saw that killing. Afraid of being reported to the police, the murderer shot the eyewitness, Yu Gi Hyeon’s father. The boy was told not to report about the killing to anybody. Feeling afraid, Yu Gi Hyeon nodded his head agreeing that he didn’t see anything.

Ten years later, Hyeon, together with his uncle, went to his father burial-ground to pay his respect for him.  Now he was a handsome youth who wants to be a professional saxophone player. Yu Gi Hyeon, after visiting the burial-ground and pouring rice wine, walked home. He passed by a church that was full with people preparing for a wedding ceremony. The bride, starred by Jan Sin Young did not want to get married. It had been forced and arranged by her parents with a wealthy man. She ran away from home.

Yu Gi Hyeon was walking near a lake when In-Hui ran from behind. Then she was passing over Yu Gi Hyeon, and she took off her headscarf and threw it away. The headdress landed on Hyeon’s head.

Minutes later, Hyeon saw Jan Sin Young was walking into the lake. He thought that the girl wanted to commit suicide. He ran into the water to catch her hand and drag her out of the lake. She was angry saying that she only wanted to take a piece of paper blown by the wind. The paper contains the address of a girls’ school she wants to enroll in.

After that they sat by a fire to dry their clothes and the paper off. The girls’ school she wants to register is in a city.

The next day both of them met again in a train. They sat face to face in one compartment. Yu Gi Hyeon was talking with his friend when suddenly the failed bridegroom and his men entered the train trying to find the girl. She saw them first. Mistakenly taking Hyeon’s bag, she escaped covering his head with it. Yu Gi Hyeon saw the girl escaped from the train covering her head with his bag that contains the saxophone. Running out of the train station, the girl entered a car whose back door was open. When the owner of the car was about to get into the car, he saw the girl hiding. He knew that she was being chased by the failed bridegroom and his men. He decided not to tell them.

The girl managed to go to the city. Not having enough money, she sold the saxophone to a pawn shop. At the same time, Yu Gi Hyeon was going to the girls’ school to ask her to return his saxophone. Moments later, they met in the girls’ school campus. She admitted that the saxophone had been sold to a pawn shop and promised to pay it back by withdrawing the money which she had paid to the school registrar as her registration fee. Knowing her financial condition, Yu Gi Hyeon declined her offer saying that he would redeem the bag with the saxophone by using his own money. The saxophone was the only property he inherited from his father. Finally, they separated that day. Yu Gi Hyeon went to Japan and the girl began to study in the girl’s school.

Three years later, Yu Gi Hyeon returned to Korea as a professional saxophone player. He played from one café to another. One day he walked a long a narrow pathway near a water in busy market. There was a small music performance. A father and a little girl named Sun-Yi were passing by it. She asked her father to stop and watch a girl singing Korean song about her brother who was a singer and who liked eating a lot of delicious food. He was reluctant to stop. While they were watching, suddenly two men came and hit her father. One wanted to shoot him but Gi Hyeon stopped him to do so. Sun-Yi screamed asking them to stop beating her father. They were very angry and one of them kicked her until she fell into the deep gutter. Her head bumped into a stone. She fell in the water. Her head was bleeding and she became unconscious. Yu Gi Hyeon saw the whole incident. He ran into the water to save her.

Jang Sin Young (In - Hui) was sitting inside a moving car with the young man who had saved her in the train station when she saw Yu Gi Hyeon ran to a hospital carrying the little girl in his hands. She told the driver to stop. She got out from the car and running to chase Yu Gi Hyeon.
